Powderhook has partnered with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) to provide hunters with the ultimate turkey-finding app this season.

Gobble Map is a turkey hunting tool that crowdsources turkey sightings to create a heat map that hunters can use to find the most active turkey hunting areas. It’s available now in the Apple App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and on the web.

“These days a hunter may only have limited time to prepare for and plan a hunt. We want to ensure they have the greatest opportunity for an enjoyable time in the woods, so they continue to carry on our hunting heritage,” said Doug Saunders, NWTF executive vice president of marketing and development.

Hunting apps like Gobble Map present a unique challenge for Powderhook developers.

“We knew a couple things would make the Gobble Map a unique challenge,” said Heath Roehr, Powderhook co-founder and VP of Engineering.

“We need to be able to accept potentially tens of thousands of reports coming in at the same time. We need to process and aggregate that data and display it on a map in a way that’s meaningful to sportsmen and women. And they need to be looking at this on their phone in a bandwidth limited area. And it needs to be really fast.”

Powderhook feels that they have raised the bar for this kind of app, and they see it as an expression of their mission: Access for All.

“We’re looking for just about everyone to give it a shot,” said Roehr. “Whether you’re a novice turkey hunter, an expert turkey hunter, a biologist, or just an outdoor enthusiast, we’re interested in getting this in people’s hands and letting them experiment with it–and really collect some meaningful data for the outdoor community.”
