Every year hundreds of founders and entrepreneurs descend on our city for Big Omaha. As your Big Omaha event organizers, we are sensitive to making sure that everybody has an amazing time while they’re here.

To that end, based on our own past experience running this event, we’ve come up with a helpful list of what NOT to bring to Big Omaha:

1. Unhealthy snacks

If you eat junk food at Big Omaha, you will be lethargic, sleepy, and in a food coma. The good news is we don’t have any of that. Our friends at Schnackel and Bulu Box will be providing a variety of healthy snack options that will be available the entire event. Do that instead.

2. A swag bag

If you’ve been to other conferences like Big Omaha, this one may surprise you. We don’t have booths with gobs of cheap freebies at Big Omaha. Did you just take a big sigh of relief? Yes, you heard right. No swag. Just relax, enjoy, and leave the spare backpack for mountain climbing.

3. Binoculars

If this is your first time to Big Omaha, this might surprise you as well. Big Omaha attendees get to interact on a personal level with nationally recognized speakers. Ask an old timer. The ability to really engage with our special guests is second to none.

4. Selfie sticks

Just kidding! We love selfies. And you probably won’t be able to fit all your friends in without one anyway. Just be careful where you swing them!

5. A closed mind

You are going to leave Big Omaha with some fresh perspectives, some new ideas, and some new friends–if you’re open to it. Big Omaha is a great way to renew yourself and return back to your enterprise with a whole new approach.

6. Gorilla repellent

So…recently there was an itsy-bitsy incident that happened at our local zoo. And it kind of went viral. Let us assure you: The gorillas will not get out of the zoo. We promise.

7. Whatever you wore to Comic-Con

We appreciate that you are, in your free time, Peter Quill, Star Lord. Or Inara from Firefly (bring it back!). But there are times, and there are places.

8. Google Glass

What is this, 2014?

9. Your social anxiety

Big Omaha attendees have a reputation for being a super-friendly crowd. Everybody is here to meet new people and make connections. No matter what you’re working on or what stage you are at, don’t be afraid to tell your story. Hey, it’s great practice no matter where you go from here.

10. Garth Brooks

Actually, that would be pretty cool. At House of Loom. #garthatloom #shameless
