Nominations for this year’s SPAwards end tomorrow (July 31st)! Nominate now. In anticipation of this year’s awards we decided to check back in with a few of our past winners to see what they’re up to and to get their take on the Silicon Prairie community.

2014 Best Culture: Bulu Box

Since Lincoln-based Bulu Box won Best Culture at the Silicon Prairie Awards last August they have been on a tear. In September they won the Lincoln Chamber’s Entrepreneurial Spirit award. In November SPN reported on their sponsorship of a half-marathon. And this spring they announced a $1.5 million raise to develop analytics software for the marketing data from their subscription box service.

Paul Jarrett, co-founder, has also been a major “drum-beater” for the Lincoln and Silicon Prairie community, a much needed counter-weight to Midwestern quietude.

“The possibilities here are incredible,” said Jarrett. “We’ve seen killer growth in this region since Bulu Box started, in available resources and community support. If you work hard, this community will work just as hard to help you succeed.”

2014 Best Creation: ShotTracker

When ShotTracker won Best Creation last year, they had just started shipping their product. Over the last year they’ve increased their user base and engagement and released even more products, including an app for Android and iOS and a virtual basketball camp with Klay Thompson.

Co-founder Davyeon Ross is happy to be building his company here.

“I think the region is really genuine,” said Ross. “Everyone wants to see everyone be successful. It’s really cooperative. It’s a good place to be.”

2013 Designer of the Year: Jake Stutzman

After winning the 2013 Designer of the Year award, Jake Stutzman at Omaha-based Elevate has gone on to work with some well-known clients, including Hudl, RaceNote and DecisionLogic. Outside of the region they’ve collaborated with Breathometer, which starred on Shark Tank, and a company in West Africa with a product called Legend.

Even with their worldwide reach, you’ll still find Stutzman and other members of the Elevate team around at startup events.

“I love how tight knit the community is and that everyone seems to be rooting for each other,” said Stutzman.

Who’s going to be next? Nominate your favorites for this year’s Silicon Prairie Awards! Nominations end July 31st.
