Working at a local post office in Omaha, Veronica Oleson has seen hundreds of popular subscription boxes.
Six months ago, she saw an opportunity.
“Every month I would run out of tampons, and I’d have to make a special trip to the store. It was a pain,” said Oleson. “After seeing so many subscription boxes, I knew I could come up with one that worked.”
How Pampered Box works
Pampered Box is a subscription box for periods. The process is simple. You pick what brand of tampons/pads you use (between Kotex, Playtex and Tampax products), the kind you use (super, regular, light), and you sign up for the packages to be delivered on a monthly basis.
The packages also include chocolate and a thank you note from Oleson herself. Oleson is also working on a piece of the project where she writes tips and tricks for periods in every box.

“If you drink extra water it helps with cramps or if you eat healthier a few days before you get your period it helps,” said Oleson. “I’m just learning a lot of things that I think will help women make their periods easier.”
The subscription box is available for purchase at $19.99 per month with free shipping. You can receive 50 percent off your first box by using the code: PAMPERED upon purchase.
Work, school, startup
For the last six months Oleson has been working on Pampered Box. When asked what the biggest challenge has been while starting her own business, she said that balancing work, school and a business has been her biggest struggle.
“Once I’m done in a few weeks it will be much easier to focus on Pampered Box,” said Oleson. “It’s been challenging to work full time, go to school full time and to run a business.”
Oleson added that going to school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha [UNO] and studying business with a concentration in entrepreneurship helped her accelerate her business.
“My school projects were actually my business,” said Oleson. “UNO gave me the tools, assistance and knowledge to be able to move forward with Pampered Box and plugged me into the Omaha entrepreneurship community.”
Utilizing the talent around her
Coming from a family of 13, Oleson knows how to use the talent around her. She currently has one of her brothers working on online marketing, her husband, an artist, working on the design of the branding and marketing materials, and one of her sisters helping with the business.
“I just have a lot of people in my life that are helping me get started,” said Oleson.
Oleson spoke about the importance of having the same vision when choosing business partners.
“It’s challenging,” said Oleson. “You have to make sure that whomever you’re working with wants the same things and is going to be a good blend with you.”
Oleson explained that working with her family is not as challenging as one might think. She said that they’ve always worked together in groups at different companies and that they actually work really well together.
“The packages are actually named after my sisters,” said Oleson.
Giving back
Oleson is currently working with a girl’s educational group based out of Washington D.C. that provides feminine products and educational courses for young women living in poverty ages eight to 17.
She is also looking to build additional community partnerships with organizations like the Open Door Mission in Omaha. She hopes to set up Pampered Box so that a portion of the proceeds go to providing tampons for women at the homeless shelter.
“It’s the highest needed item besides diapers, and no one really thinks to donate them,” said Oleson. “I really just want to make people’s lives easier.”
