Featured Event – Women’s Pitch Fest

Minneapolis-based WE* is now accepting applications for their 2017 Women’s Pitch Fest being held during Twin Cities Startup Week on October 9 at the University of Minnesota. Applications to pitch are due by September 23.

“What WE* is really focused on is women supporting women building scalable startup companies,” said Pamela York, partner at Capita3 and Pitch Fest organizer. “There are a lot of resources for building small businesses, but we really want to attract women into building scalable, investable companies. We think it’s really important for women to hear that message.”

The 3rd annual Pitch Fest is a featured component event for Twin Cities Startup Week and a chance for women founders and startup leaders to pitch their companies to angel and venture investors, industry leaders, strategic partners, mentors, and entrepreneurial enthusiasts.

Approximately 20 applicants will be chosen to give their 3 minute pitch for a chance to win $1500. Judges from investor groups Capita3 and The Sophia Fund will be selecting the companies that pitch. The Pitch Fest audience will be selecting the winner and the runner up.

WE* was founded in 2015 by a group of women entrepreneurs, investors, and community leaders who wanted to come together to support other women in Minnesota’s communities who were developing scalable ideas and startups. They set out to break the impression that women aren’t building scalable and investable companies by putting them in front of a broader audience as a way to raise their visibility.

“WE* started this program 3 years ago and what we found was that there was a ton of awesome women building companies up here that people didn’t know about,” said York.”Our first goal was to create an event to show how many women there are building companies.”
