Alyss is innovating in hiring.

When Alyss competed for and won the $120K grand prize at the Inside/Outside Innovation Summit in Lincoln, Nebraska last year, company Founder and CEO Mike Mathia was determined to realize his vision of helping job applicants stand out and demonstrate their qualifications beyond a simple resume.

Less than one year later, the Wichita-based Alyss has evolved to equip HR departments to discover the very best new talent. Alyss has customized a platform that helps organizations search for and find the best job candidates based on soft skills and “intangible” traits.

Alyss technology integrates in the video interview process to measure facial landmarks, speech to text, and speech tone, helping hiring managers identify the most qualified candidates – more quickly and more efficiently.

“Initially we set out to be a video interview company. As we developed and grew the company, we recognized the opportunity to become a partner with other video interview products on the market rather than to directly compete with them” said Mathia.

He added, “We’ve talked to HR departments and have found a high degree of interest in analytics; however, many of these departments do not have adequate solutions in place to sort through candidates outside of what they submit on paper or through an online application portal.

Even if these HR departments are accepting video interviews, HR managers simply don’t have endless hours to spend sifting through videos and subjectively analyzing them. Alyss handles the analytics for these clients, adding significantly more objectivity to candidate selection. In addition, Alyss’ insights provide our clients with more assurance that their hires are aligned with the values, mission, and culture of their respective organization.”

Mathia shared that Alyss is about to kick off its first in a series of six-month pilots, beginning April 10, with an international video interview company. In addition to the international partner, Alyss will pilot with a number of U.S.-based video interview companies as well.

“We are poised to potentially process a million or more minutes of video analytics in 2020 following completion of our pilots. Along the way, we’re always revising algorithms and models based on the research studies we’re conducting to help Alyss learn more about human behavior. We then build those insights back into Alyss,” said Mathia.

He continued, “In our current research project now underway, data is being collected anonymously from 500 participants in the study who each answer some general questions and submit brief video responses. From that, we provide what we call a PACE score, which is based on underlying data we analyze among four attributes – positivity, articulation, confidence, and energy.”

Want your own Alyss PACE summary? Below is an invitation from Alyss to participate in the research study it is conducting:

Curious how our Alyss technology perceives and rates your soft skills as an individual? If so, you are invited to participate in our brief 15-20-minute personality assessment research study, answer a few questions through some “best choice” selections and a provide few answers via video response. Then, the first 500 participants will receive a FREE personality summary once our study is complete. Your responses will be anonymous and only you will see your personality summary.

While not required, we encourage you to complete this with your mobile phone as this is the most efficient medium to provide responses given the built-in webcam all phones possess. The personality survey can be reached through this link: http://bit.ly/AlyssProject. Thanks for your willingness to be innovative alongside us!
