It’s Big Omaha season, can you tell?

It’s that time of year when we put our small staff on overdrive to maintain content production and manage one of our premier events. The regular volume of posts (3-4 per day) has decreased, our email reply times have slowed and phone calls aren’t being returned as quickly, but you can be sure that we’re still here, continuously motivated by the community around us.

This week, you’ll see the volume increase again as our new editor, Michael Stacy, continues to get into the swing of things, Big Omaha planning is finalized and posts previewing the event’s speakers and activities are published. With that in mind, we’ll do our best to balance our Big Omaha coverage with our dedicated attention to the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Silicon Prairie – if you have a news pitch or idea, please email editor@siliconprairienews.com.

Big Omaha

As it has in the past, siliconprairienews.com will serve as the official blog of Big Omaha. To narrow in on that coverage, visit siliconprairienews.com/tag/big-omaha. Over the next two weeks, keep an eye out for the schedule release, details on the parties (all of which are open to the public), speaker snapshots and interviews, live-blogging at the event and coverage from the floor of Big Omaha.

If you have any ideas for how we can continue to provide better coverage of Big Omaha, please let us know in the comments below or email editor@siliconprairienews.com.

Contributor Update

I’m excited to share updates on three of our contributors, one who I’m introducing to you for the first time and two who are moving on from contributing to Silicon Prairie News because of opportunities elsewhere.

First up, you’ve seen his writing since December, but we haven’t officially announced the addition of Christopher New as a contributor (left, photo courtesy of New). Christopher is based in Ankeny, Iowa. You may also be familiar with Christopher because he was responsible for the top-notch post-production work to our Big Omaha 2011 videos. You can learn more about Christopher on his contributor page or visit the website of his video production company, Event1 Video.

Two of our contributors, Andrea Cuirej and Chris G. Shaw, will no longer be writing for us. Andrea, who began with us as a summer intern last year and then continued to contribute monthly when she picked up her first job, will be moving on as she now works for Bailey Lauerman as a business development coordinator. Chris, a new contributor with three posts under his belt, will no longer have the time or capacity to contribute as he has also moved on in his professional career, accepting a position with the startup SCVNGR in Boston.

We’re proud of our contributors’ career developments, and we’re motivated to see them follow their passions in their full-time jobs. We’re honored to have been a part of their previous off-work activities.

Guests Contributors

Although all past guest posts have come from personal requests by us, we’d like to begin publicly encouraging you to submit ideas for guest posts. We’d like to hear from experienced technology entrepreneurs or investors in our region or individuals who are experts on companies and industries we cover. To submit an idea for a guest post, email editor@siliconprairienews.com.

Also, be on the lookout for announcement posts introducing guest columnists. We’ve been speaking with a few fantastic folks in our region, and we can’t wait to we get rolling with their educational contributions.

Feedback Appreciated

Michael and I appreciate hearing any feedback on the content of Silicon Prairie News. To reach us, email editor@siliconprairienews.com – this email ends up in both our inboxes.
