Des Moines Area Community College‘s annual celebration of innovation is underway. iWeek kicked off today and runs through Thursday at DMACC’s West Campus, featuring a variety of free events that are open to the public.

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, Dr. David Gallo, the director of special projects at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and Fritz Maytag, the chairman of Maytag Dairy Farms and owner of York Creek Vineyards will deliver the event’s featured keynotes. Tickets are required for admission to Wozniak’s talk, and those tickets sold out last month. Tickets aren’t required for admission to any other iWeek talks.

The schedule for the week features several speakers that may be familiar to Silicon Prairie News readers, including Debi Durham, the director of the Iowa Department for Economic Development; Jake Kerber, the founder of Locusic; Leann Jacobson, the president of the Technology Association of Iowa; and Adam Carroll of Succeed Faster

A little more on the goals of iWeek, from the event’s organizers:

iWeek immerses students and the general public in a variety of interactive projects to promote creative and innovative thought. The intent of iWeek is to engage students (and the public) in a focused context outside of their normal studies to help them see both the value and process of innovation.
