The nonprofit online media company that focuses on local Nebraska music launched a radio app and new site this week.

HearNebraska.org has its first redesign since it launched in 2010 with a mission to make the state a globally recognized cultural destination. The new site is fully responsive with an embedded radio station that has a new playlist every Monday.

“The new Hear Nebraska website allows Hear Nebraska to tell the state’s music and arts story more effectively, and to better support Nebraska’s incredibly talented music and arts community,” said Executive Director Andrew Norman

The site is hosted by Flywheel, a WordPress hosting company based in Omaha and was designed by Thomas Flaherty (UX) and Eric Nyffeler of Doe Eyed Design (front-end design). Brandon Bone (HN Radio) and Jacob Dunn (the website) helped with development.

It coincides with the launch of HN Radio, a custom-built streaming music app that aims to make Nebraska music easily accessible for a global audience. Each Monday, HN Radio will feature a new curated playlist of some of the best original Nebraska music, including song and album premieres, live recordings, podcasts and other exclusive content.

“HN Radio showcases the best of Nebraska music, making it more accessible than ever before,” Norman said. “We’re extremely excited about what HN Radio means for the future of the organization, and are grateful for the support from the Nebraska Arts Council, Nebraska Cultural Endowment and Omaha Venture Group.”

HN Radio was made possible with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and Omaha Venture Group. Founded in 2010 by Andrew Norman and Angie Norman, Hear Nebraska has produced more than 2,500 pieces of content, utilizing the talents of primarily volunteer contributing writers, photographers, videographers and designers.

HearNebraska.org receives about 20,000 visits per month. While Nebraskans make up 60 percent of its audience, 40 percent come from other states, and 7 percent from other countries.
