The social media site for dog lovers has had a mini app before (read more about Pack Snack, the app that sends push notifications of dog pics) but the new app, released Monday, allows you to browse your news feed and post to the site.
Pack has primarily been a desktop site since its launch in 2012.
The first version is not feature complete, but co-founder Megan Casey said it’s a simple, easy to use app.
“It’s such a simple v.1. But making it that simple, and at the same time mapping out future versions that it will grow into takes a good chunk of focus and time.”
Developers John Hobbs, Alex Gates and Paul Graff are based out of Omaha while Casey and John Henry Muller, a designer, are based out of Los Gatos, California.
Casey said Pack believes life is better with a dog by your side.
“Whenever you spend time with your dog (be it snuggling or swimming or adventuring), we want you to have Pack in your pocket to post those moments,” she said. “And when you can’t be with your dog, the Pack app is an easy way to look at dog smiles and remember that life can be simpler than we humans make it.”
Casey describes it as “a super active dog park in my pocket” because owners can follow specific breeds and soon, they can follow “Local Packs” of dogs in the area.
Meanwhile, the Pack Snack app won’t go away, Casey says.
“People love Snack! Five dogs, 60 seconds of happy, just one time a day. It turns out that’s a winning formula. I think if we tried to take it away, they’d send angry cats after us.”
And on a completely unrelated note, Hobbs created a gif app to help build some fun into the remote-working team’s day. Pack used the web application to chronicle the making of the Pack app. This is by far our favorite.
