Best-selling author and entrepreneur Seth Godin will be the opening keynote as part of the Greater Omaha Chamber’s entrepreneurship event Make / Happen.

Godin was in the region earlier this year as part of Iowa’s week-long EntreFEST event. The Chamber decided to invite Godin to Omaha as a way to focus the event on shaking up the status quo.

“In the initial planning stages for this conference, we wanted the focus to be around risk-taking, innovation and change makers,” said Kody Schrader, Senior Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. “So when we began to discuss who would really make an impact, Seth Godin rose to the top of the list.”

The all-day event will be held at Holland Performing Arts Center in downtown Omaha on Thursday, October 8th, 2015. The day’s agenda will include an opportunity for startups to showcase their ideas, culture and business methods in front of local corporate leaders within the same industry. Thirty-two revenue-generating startups from Omaha and Lincoln will be present at the event.

“This isn’t your typical startup event,” Schrader said. “This event is bridging the gap between the business and startup communities. We want to be nationally recognized for innovation, and this is the start to getting there. Our business community has ideas ready to be monetized, and the Make / Happen event will inspire attendees to execute those ideas.”

Intrapreneurship within established companies will also be a major emphasis at the event.

“Hundreds of ideas are sitting on the backlog of organizations that have the potential to spin off into new companies and create new revenue streams,” said Schrader.

Individual tickets are $299. A package of 6 tickets can be purchased for $1,700. Registration is due October 1. To register, visit make-happen.com.
