What would it looked like if we mapped the Silicon Prairie? We have a start, but now we need your help.
Our goal is to put a pin on the map above for every tech startup, venture capital firm, incubator, coworking space and other major participant in the region we cover, made up of Omaha, Des Moines, Kansas City and the surrounding – if you drive to one of those three cities to catch a commercial flight, you’re part of the Silicon Prairie.
Thanks to our sponsor
We began working on the above map in June, but we received a kick start on Friday thanks to the Des Moines Register’s terrific “Silicon Sixth” interactive map and some encouraging chatter on Twitter, but we still have a ways to go.
How you can help
If you have a pin to add to the map or information to update, please fill out the form below. We’re aiming to have each pin contain the name of the business, address, website and Twitter handle. (Left, example of the information for each pin, screenshot from maps.google.com.) Furthermore, to get a better sense of the landscape, we’re labeling each startup as “funded (angel or VC), full-time employee(s)” (green pin), “bootstrapped, full-time employee(s)” (purple pin) or “bootstrapped, part-time employee(s)” (blue pink).
Consider this Version 1.0 of the Silicon Prairie map, a project of ours that I think will best be completed with the help of the community. Once the data is gathered, we’ll do our part to refine it and hopefully, present it in a manner that makes it easier to see, explore and learn about the Silicon Prairie.
Thanks already to folks who have begun to collaborate on the map with us, including Andy Stoll, Christian Renaud and Tej Dhawan.
Add or update a pin
Use the following form to submit a new pin or update information for a current pin. If you’d like to become a collaborator on the Google Map, which would give you the ability to edit it, or play another role in this project, email me at danny@siliconprairienews.com. Thanks in advance for your help with this project.
