Earlier this week the Kauffman Foundation and Engine—a technology policy coalition—released a list of the top 10 metro areas with the highest startup density. While no Silicon Prairie cities garnered spots in the top 10, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Ames, Iowa, served as the region’s representation in spots 20 and 25 respectively. The report also notes that tech-heavy startups spring up at a higher rate—23 percent more—than all other private-sector businesses. “By comparing the high-tech sector with other firms across the economy, we see the job-creating power that growth-oriented technology startups harness, compared with other young businesses,” said Ian Hathaway, the author of the study, in a press release. “Observing these trends, it is clear that encouraging the creation of new tech businesses can boost our economy.” This report was compiled using statistics from the Business Dynamics Statistics collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. — Source: Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation
