MetaCommunications, an Iowa City-based software company, has announced they have raised $8 million at the close of their Series A, led by Next Level Ventures, a Des Moines based venture capital fund.

MetaCommunications was founded in 1997 to provide workflow automation software for marketing and creative teams. Today their products include Workgroups DaVinci, Approval Manager and ProofMe. Some of their clients include Crate & Barrel, Pfizer, Merck, Sony, Staples and Yamaha.

This is Next Level Ventures’ largest raise yet with an additional investment from St. Martin Land Co. out of Cedar Rapids.

“We’re betting big on Meta,” said Craig Ibsen, Managing Principal of Next Level Ventures. “The business and its team have a proven track record of innovation and sustained growth in their industry and an enviable list of Fortune 500 customers to support this. In short, Meta has shown it has all of the needed elements to become a powerhouse growth story for Iowa and we want to be a part of that story.”

MetaCommunications said they plan to use the funding for partnerships, marketing, and hiring more staff. They expect to hire 25 new employees over the next two years, according to their press release.

“We feel like we can become the Salesforce.com of our industry,” said Bob Long, CEO, in a Des Moines Register article. “To do that, we’ve got to put more feet on the street. It’s just that simple.”
