The story of Tallyfy begins in London, England but brings us to St. Louis, MO.

Amit Kothari spent a decade at various companies in London after graduating from the University of Bath with a degree in Computer Science. He noticed that organizations invested a lot of time and resources documenting processes. However, the many diagrams, flow charts, and manuals mostly wound up on shelves – ignored or long forgotten – collecting dust.

He recognized that a huge amount of time, effort, and money is wasted on process improvement efforts that are cumbersome, do not work, and are not relevant. Amit and his wife Pravina Pindoria set about creating a better workflow tool that would be beautiful and easy to use. Together they co-founded Tallyfy in 2014. They applied for and received a $50,000 Arch Grant and relocated to St. Louis in 2015.

They designed Tallyfy to eliminate company chaos around approvals in general – including emails, spreadsheets, and other elements they found to be unnecessary and redundant to documenting and managing processes.

We at SPN were intrigued to know how the platform works, as well as more about the ways the tool appeals to and attracts Tallyfy clients. Amit explained that companies can launch a process in Tallyfy and share a workflow between teams and even with their customers. Tallyfy enables companies to build process blueprints, share tasks, and track activities in real time. The tool is easy to use and has deep integrations with common email and chat tools that people use at work today.

Amit distinguished the Tallyfy platform from tools such as Basecamp and others. “Processes are not projects – which are discrete and unique. Processes are repeatable. Companies achieve scale through repeatable processes – not projects. Our solution is designed to help companies achieve radically greater efficiency and scale quickly.”

Amit cited an example of how Tallyfy simplifies and manages processes. “As headcounts grow, so do the complexities associated with tracking workflows. Take onboarding clients or orienting new employees, for example.” Amit noted that process pain points are especially acute in smaller companies with fewer resources that are spread thin as companies struggle to scale. “It doesn’t make sense to exert limited and precious resources and effort on processes, which by definition are repeating events. Tallyfy automates these kinds of repeatable workflows.”

Amit added, “Tallyfy is an excellent solution to the problems that arise when the specialist or subject-matter expert is out on vacation for a week, or when it’s time to sell the business. Tallyfy also fosters better day-to-day business continuity by systemizing how a business runs. It collects and organizes information that otherwise remains locked up in human brains, and documents processes digitally.” The days of wasteful and tedious emails and spreadsheets are gone.

SPN asked Amit about how Tallyfy itself is growing. “We’ve had great support here in St. Louis in addition to the Arch Grant – we’ve raised $2 million to date. Our first investors include the former head of engineering at Facebook and a gentleman who was previously the Chief Scientist at Oracle. We also had match funding from the Missouri Technology Corporation. We have been extremely fortunate to have so much support in the St. Louis community.”

SPN also asked about work/life balance as spouses and co-founders. Amit beamed and said “My wife is my trusted partner in life, and we have found an excellent footing as business partners as well. We created “the 7 o’clock rule” at which time we stop being colleagues no matter what we are working on and focus on being husband and wife. We even have a manifesto for our team outlining that this is how we operate.”

Amit added that they are thrilled to be building Tallyfy in St. Louis. “Tallyfy is hiring for various roles and is always looking for great talent. We hope our story inspires others to see St. Louis as the place to start and grow a company,” said Amit. “St. Louis is a fantastic example of a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem with access to exceptional talent. We are happy to call it home.”
