Kansan launches Kickstarter-like VetLaunch for veterans

At one point in his military career, Sean McIntosh was in charge of a $14 million training budget. Now the former Navy SEAL said he has a tough time borrowing a $5,000 business card. “There’re probably 5,000 veterans with my same problem,” McIntosh, 33, said in a recent telephone interview. It’s a tale as old as Vietnam, at least in a modern-warfare sense. The ex-soldier, emerging from a world of high-pressure decision-making and million-dollar responsibilities, reintegrates into a society that can only offer him or her a lackluster civilian workload.  read more

Last fall when Soumik Aswad applied for Global Entrepreneurship Week's Startup Open, Kansas City was the last place he thought he'd end up. But Aswad and his brother, Souvik, both Bangladeshi citizens, placed second in the global competition with their fledgling startup idea Panacea, a company focused on eliminating the counterfeit pharmaceutical problem plaguing their home country.  read more

Sen. Rand Paul stops by Mastercraft for entrepreneurship roundtable

Sen. Rand Paul has been mum on a potential presidential run in 2016, but took time to stop by the Mastercraft Monday before heading out on a statewide tour of Iowa this week in what many politicos say will lay a foundation for a 2016 bid. The Kentucky senator toured the Mastercraft, a hub of creative and entrepreneurial activity, with Rep. Lee Terry and senate hopeful Ben Sasse before sitting down with about 20 entrepreneurs and startup community members to hear their concerns.  read more
