The second annual Highlight Midwest event coming up on October 23rd is already drawing the creative class from places like Kansas City, Omaha, and beyond as well as those who call Des Moines home. Details emerged today about an adjacent event that is being planned the preceding evening called “Movement Bash” that is sure to encourage even more participation.
Movement Bash will be hosted at Impromptu Studio and organizer Dan Shipton is looking to foster a casual evening of networking for all those who will be in town to take part in Highlight Midwest.

The theme is “celebrate entrepreneurship” and there is a focus on keeping the innovators, entrepreneurs, artists and others involved “moving” the region forward. Shipton explained, “Our original name ideas were: “Idle Bash,” “The Stalled Out Ball,” “The Don’t Innovate, Copy/Paste! Party,” and “The Stand Still Shindig” … but we decided those didn’t match our core values. If you stop moving, you are not going to get very far… hence the name: Movement Bash.”
The event is supported by 18 Des Moines-area businesses that cater to the local entrepreneurial and creative community. “The sponsors of Movement Bash are a great sampling of the diversity and depth that Des Moines has to offer. Especially with regards to companies who want the Midwest to continue building momentum,” said Shipton in discussing why these particular businesses wanted to be involved.
The event is intended to be casual with a promise from Shipton of “no presentations, just conversations.” Participants will be treated to free food, free beverages, and free entertainment throughout the evening. “Our goal is to have every single person at the Movement Bash make deeper, more meaningful connections by encouraging participants to have interactions based around different activities.”
