Do you have a research paper, best practice, or reflection on business that you’ve been looking to share with the world? More specifically, do you have a message that would make a positive impact on the tech industry? If you’ve said “yes” to any of the above, consider applying to this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) PanelPicker.

It was through last year’s PanelPicker that Silicon Prairie News co-founder Jeff Slobotski was invited to participate on a SXSW Interactive panel titled Don’t Move! Build a Startup Community Where You Live (above). Other presenting individuals or companies from the region included:

In total, SXSW Interactive 2010 had over 300 panels, solo presentations, Core Conversations, Salons, book readings, and more. If you’re involved or interested in a tech startup, want to stay on top of current trends, or just want a week of engaging presentations and conversation, I strongly encourage you to attend SXSW Interactive at least once. And if you’re granted a speaking spot, it’ll be all the sweeter.

Here’s the lowdown on the PanelPicker interface for South by Southwest, March 11-15, 2011:

  • Step 1: Proposals for SXSW Interactive, Film, or Music (only allowed one per festival) due by July 9. Submit at panelpicker.sxsw.com. Additional information including categories, presentation formats, and the new user-generated tags feature built in to PanelPicker can be found at sxsw.com/panelpicker_faq.
  • Step 2: From August 9-27, PanelPicker allows the public, whether past attendees or engaged consumers, to rate which of the proposals are the best fit.
  • Step 3: From the August 28 on, SXSW staff and advisory board will choose and announce the selected proposals. (The first announcement for 2010 came October 18, 2009)

Here’s a video from SXSW which wraps up the process in two minutes:

Here’s more about SXSW from a recent press release. SXSW takes place annually in Austin, Texas.

The South by Southwest Conferences & Festivals (March 11-20, 2011) offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW is the premier destination for discovery.

Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, music showcases and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning, business activity thrives at the Trade Shows and global networking opportunities abound. Austin serves as the perfect backdrop for SXSW®, where career development flourishes amid the relaxed atmosphere. Intellectual and creative intermingling among industry leaders continues to spark new ideas and carve the path for the future of each ever-evolving field, long after the events’ conclusion.
