We’re very excited to announce our first-ever “Silicon Prairie Annual Report,” an annual look back at the previous year in the Silicon Prairie region, taking into account such metrics as company formations, product releases and developments, investment and M&A activity, and community building.
The “Silicon Prairie Annual Report” will serve as a recorded benchmark for our entrepreneurial ecosystem for 2010 as well as an annual measurement of our progress in the future.
The inaugural report is set to be published in mid-February 2011, Over these next two and a half months we’ll be working hard to assemble the facts and figures necessary to put this together.
Read on to learn more about what will make up the report and please know that your participation in this effort will be very appreciated.

Analysis: Six Tenets
The “Silicon Prairie Annual Report” will include a detailed analysis of the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by using the following “Six Tenets of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.” These tenets were inspired by current TechCrunch senior editor Sarah Lacy‘s personal blog post from July 2008: The Post Gets Me in Trouble (Probably).
- Culture of Risk Taking
- Wild, Almost Naive Ambition
- Access to Capital
- Big Companies Techies Can Spin Off From
- Universities
- Vibrant Social Scene
Look for a follow up post in the coming weeks for more information on each as well as a form that will allow you to provide feedback.
The Innov8
In the Omaha and Des Moines regions, we’ll be honoring eight individuals (16 total) for the inaugural “Innov8 Awards.” These awards will recognize individuals’ contributions in the past year to advance the ecosystem. They’ll be honored for their specific work in furthering one or more of the “Six Tenets of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.”
Nominate an individual for the Innov8 Awards. You can nominate yourself as well as more than one individual.
Finally, we’ll be honoring one company as the “Silicon Prairie Startup of the Year.” This company may be completely bootstrapped or in its third round of financing. It may be pre-revenue, early stage, or several years into operations. The definition of “startup company” varies from person to person but our goal is to recognize the company who has taken the best strides in the past year for themselves and for the Silicon Prairie community.
Nominate a company for Startup of the Year. You can nominate yourself as well as more than one company.
