When just over 100 people registered for the last Dwolla Meetup, some attendees were forced to watch from the street as Dwolla CEO Ben Milne and team launched their online cash transfer service on a national scale. At last count, attendee registration for next week’s March 2nd Dwolla Meetup is almost 50% higher.

In speaking with Milne this morning he assured me they could accommodate more than 200 in the bigger venue at Cabaret West Glen (560 South Prairie View Drive) before anyone is pushed outside. At the rate people are registering, that’s a legitimate possibility.

The reason for this meetup is to announce a new platform for Dwolla, something Milne considers revolutionary. “If Visa were to do this, it would move the market,” he told me in reference to the credit card company’s giant user base.

In addition to this announcement, Dwolla will be utilizing the forum to highlight the startup community in Des Moines and has asked three companies, Startup Weekend, ScoreYard and Uppward, to speak to the group about what’s new with their startups.

Local screenprint and design shop 8/7 Central has also put together a new version of the popular Dwolla T-shirt to hand out at the meetup. In Milne’s words, “it’s über badass.”
