As event producers ourselves, we like learning about and attending new and ambitious events in the region. In the past, we’ve told readers about Omaha Fashion Week, MAHA Music Festival and 80/35. Today, we want to share an event kicking off Friday, Dec. 2 called HOME: A Birdhouse Interiors and Art Exhibition.

Put on by the wife-and-husband team behind Birdhouse Interior Design, an interior design consulting firm and showroom founded in 2009, HOME is transforming an industrial marketplace near downtown Omaha into a living space featuring the works of 25 Nebraska artists, artisans and craftsmen, as well as the designer’s eyes of local and regional decorators both large and small.

Jessica McKay of Birdhouse Interior Design said the idea came to her in part from the home tours that have been popular weekend outings in Omaha. “While those events are great for homeowners to daydream about when considering home décor with no budget,” McKay said in a press release, “HOME will offer affordable and attainable designs and pieces that almost anyone can replicate to match their own personal style. Creative, unique and satisfying interior design should be affordable and accessible to everyone.” (Left, Jessica McKay, photo courtesy of McKay.)

The event runs from Dec. 2-11, but the big night to attend will be the opening reception on Dec. 2 as it will feature remarks by Erin Loechner of HGTV.com and the interior design blog Design for Mankind. Loechner will discuss the importance of up-and-coming artists utilizing the internet and social media for promotion, networking, education, collaboration and inspiration. During the remaining days, HOME will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
