Forbes featured a story today shedding light on the growing number of startup communities throughout the United States that use “Silicon” in their name.* The Silicon Prairie was among the seven cities and regions featured in the article, “The New Start-up Scene: From Silicon Strip to Silicon Mitten,” and we (Silicon Prairie News) were humbled to be called on by the author, Anneke Jong, to give our insight into what’s happening in our region.

Since we launched Silicon Prairie News a little more than three years ago, our focus has been, and continues to be, identifying the unique individuals, characteristics and assets that exist here and working to build something of value to the region. In the article, Jong says it best: “It’s not about (silicon) chips anymore, it’s about communities of thinkers, dreamers, and doers who support one another to create the innovations of tomorrow.”

Great ideas combined with passion, creativity and innovation can come from anywhere in the world. That is why we believe by working to connect and highlight the work of our community, we are just in the infancy of what’s possible within the Silicon Prairie, as we focus on building the region into a place to collaborate with other visionaries to create long-term, sustainable change.

Here’s to the success of each and every member of the Silicon Prairie community, and a challenge to continue the working to implement new ideas as we head into 2012 and beyond.

A special thanks to Silicon Prairie News contributor John Meyer for reconnecting us with Jong, whom I spoke with on the phone last week. Jong was featured in our Tools for the Trade series in July for her work as director of digital media at Bre.ad.
