On Aug. 30, the Joslyn Art Museum will showcase the work of the Silicon Prairie’s entrepreneurs.

If you haven’t heard about our inaugural Silicon Prairie Awards, today’s the day to learn all about the Aug. 30 event and the first chance to grab your ticket. This morning, we launched the awards website and with it released tickets, revealed the schedule, introduced our keynote speaker (TechStars founder David Cohen) and showcased our 16-person selection committee.

Whether you’re a startup founder, a startup enthusiast or a friend to either, you’re invited to join us on the 30th. If you plan to travel in for the awards, we have special rates at a hotel less than a mile away from the venue.

We’re also excited to announce that The Next Web is a media sponsor of the awards. They’ve joined us at Big Omaha the past two years, and now we’re excited they’ll be tuned in to learn about the companies and individuals that will be honored in August.

And don’t forget, nominations close July 25

Here’s more about the Silicon Prairie Awards:

The schedule

The event will include drinks in the Storz Fountain Court (left) and awards in the Witherspoon Concert Hall (right).

The Silicon Prairie Awards are designed to celebrate the community. With that in mind, the event will present networking opportunities, startup product demos, sponsor recognition and plenty of onstage surprises and special guests. All this will take place in the beautiful Joslyn Art Museum (2200 Dodge St.) just blocks from downtown Omaha.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. with drinks and hors d’oeuvres at an opening reception in the Storz Fountain Court. At 7 p.m., we’ll head into the Witherspoon Concert Hall for the awards celebration, which will last until 9 p.m. Following the big show, the event will wind down with a closing reception in the fountain court. The reception is presented by Hudl and will feature live entertainment.

The evening’s attire? Startup suave.

Keynote speaker

In addition to the celebration and recognition, Aug. 30 will also feature plenty of education, motivation and inspiration. A key ingredient of those is our featured keynote speaker, David Cohen, founder and CEO of TechStars.

Based in Bouder, Colo., Cohen has built one of the nation’s most-respected startup accelerators. Cohen also has exhibited great passion for building entrepreneurial communities. When he takes the stage at the Joslyn, he’ll share lessons learned from TechStars and Boulder.

Learn more about Cohen in our post, “Hear TechStars founder David Cohen at the Silicon Prairie Awards event“.

Bring your team

The event is open to all. With that in mind, we’re offering a discount to individuals who buy a pack of five tickets. The special price is only available to the first 30 purchasers of the five pack, so if you plan to bring your team, friends or significant other, make sure to grab your tickets soon as we expect these packs to go fast.

Recommended hotel

We’ve set up a special rate ($119) at Magnolia Hotel, just blocks south of the Joslyn Art Museum.

When making a reservation by phone 1-888-915-1110 option #4, mention “Silicon Prairie.”

If you’ve been to Big Omaha, you may be familiar with the Magnolia, as it’s our hotel of choice for speakers and attendees. In addition to excellent service and accommodations, it provides a complimentary hot breakfast (and cookies, too). It also offers a complimentary shuttle, so if you’re not up for the short walk to the Joslyn, they’ll drive you there.

Thanks to our sponsors

We’re excited to offer a special discount to entrepreneurs and startups that attend the event through the generous support of our sponsors. Thanks to Hudl, University of Nebraska, Centennial Bank and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
