Startup Weekend Iowa City is back for a second go-around Oct. 5-7, and tickets are still available for developers, designers and businesspeople.

The weekend-long event, which is designed to help participants learn the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures, will take place inside the John Pappajohn Business Building (21 East Market St.) on the campus of the University of Iowa.

Like at other Startup Weekend events, participants in Iowa City will devote a weekend to building the foundation a business. Things kick off Friday evening, when participants deliver one-minute pitches for company ideas. Teams spend Saturday and Sunday working to build out a handful of those ideas. They then present to a panel of judges Sunday night at a closing session that’s open to the public.

GutChecker took home top prize at last year at Iowa City’s first Startup Weekend. RecBob, a Cedar Rapids startup that now has a team of seven full-time employees, first came together at last year’s event, taking third place.

Tickets to Startup Weekend Iowa City cost $50 ($35 for students) and can be purchased online.
