As the first Central College “Startup Semester” draws to a close, students from two of the six companies formed will continue to pursue their business ventures full-time over the summer. This past spring, Wade Steenhoek, director of the college’s Martin Heerema Entrepreneurship Program, led 14 students in the effort to build a company, invest money into their own ventures and challenge the way colleges look at entrepreneurship. Though the student-built companies had mixed success, Steenhoek believes the experience is valuable because it allowed the young entrepreneurs to inch “their way towards independence with demonstrated competence and confidence in building something from scratch.” — Source: Startup Iowa
