It’s a big day for data center news in central Iowa. First, the Des Moines Register reported that construction on Altoona’s $300 million Facebook data center has sparked economic development and small-business growth. Then the Register announced that the proposed West Des Moines data center—previously known as “Project Alluvion” and approved by the City Council last month—will be a $1.1 billion Microsoft data center. During an Iowa Economic Development Authority board meeting Friday, the board announced it will consider awarding Microsoft—which already has one data center in West Des Moines—a $20.3 million sales tax rebate for the new center, available until 2021. — Source: Des Moines Register
