About the author: Adam Torpin led the vision for the Big Omaha 2014 brand. He’s a designer for Oxide Design Co., a communications and information design firm in Omaha.

We’ve been fortunate to have Oxide as our exclusive design partner in Big Omaha branding for the past six years: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and now 2014.

While branding the conference has always been a team effort here at Oxide, this is the first year I’ve volunteered to take the lead. As a designer, it’s a very desirable project because the team at Silicon Prairie News, within reason, agrees to trust our expertise and grant us complete creative freedom. While Oxide’s branding is essential, it does not compare to the year-round work done by the SPN team creating the Big Omaha experience.

Each year, rebranding has centered around one concept: Giant Cow. Established by Oxide in year one, the cow represents the outside world’s perception of our city and the region. We’ve fully embraced that perception and our history and placed it front and center. While Giant Cow has always been the conference mascot, this year giant cow has literally become our mascot.

The elements of Big Omaha 2014.

A community that supports one another with pride and enthusiasm, like Big Omaha, is no better manifested than with classic school spirit. Embracing Giant Cow is all about hometown pride. Silicon Prairie News is committed to highlighting regional innovation and entrepreneurship, and the Big Omaha conference is our homecoming. KANEKO serves as the perfect backdrop for a makeshift campus, SPN as our cheerleaders, and attendees as fans. The conference is meant to be an enlightening educational experience, providing motivation to go out into the world and accomplish something great! Thanks for being a part of it with us!
