Jessica Scorpio shares how she was challenged by Larry Page at Singularity University to create something that would positively impact a billion people in 10 years. Her team’s response was Getaround, a peer-to-peer carsharing service.

Solving the insurance problem was an obvious hurdle to overcome. Scorpio partnered with other carsharing services in California to pass a law that would legitimize carsharing and allow for insurance companies to partner with them. Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway became their first insurance partner.

“We’ve all been told a hundred times, ‘Think outside the box,’” said Scorpio. “This was a situation where it really worked.”
