Lawn Buddy is a software company based in Wichita, Kansas.  The company provides software and mobile tools to more than 10,000 users in the lawn care business.

We sat down with Steven Werner the CEO of Lawn Buddy to ask him about the new round and about the company.  When asked why Lawn Buddy exists, Werner stated: “Lawn Buddy exists to help men and women in the lawn and landscape industry better manage and grow their businesses.  We provide them with technology to enable them to directly compete with large tech companies, such as Angie’s List, Home Advisor, and other lead generation software companies.”  This strategy has helped the company to grow to have more than 10,000 customers in all fifty states.

Werner was effusive regarding the trajectory of the company.  He said, “I am really excited about seeing the traction we are getting in our space. We went from 1,000 users at the beginning of the year when we launched the new product ‘Lawn Buddy Pro’ this January to over 10,000 users now.”  Werner explained why helping small businesses was critical to the growth of his business.  Every customer “falls into what we classify as small to medium-sized businesses.”

Werner did not start out as a technology entrepreneur.  Instead, Werner actually is a military veteran who volunteers with Veterans Without Orders.  This organization helps provide healthcare and clean drinking water to underdeveloped communities around the world.  He has been a Board Member since 2017.

Werner is also a member of the Pipeline Entrepreneurs program.  We asked how Pipeline has helped him.  He responded, “Pipeline has helped me and our business tremendously this year.  Being in Wichita you can sometimes feel isolated when it comes to problems that you face with technology when the other leading companies in town are around aerospace and commercial real estate.  Pipeline surrounds you with peers and mentors to help you reach your companies’ goals.”  As SPN has written, Pipeline is currently accepting applications: (https://pipelineentrepreneurs.com/apply).

Lawn Buddy’s customer growth has created significant opportunities for the company, including potential venture capital and angel investment.  However, Werner has stated that it is important to stay focused on the company’s core business – helping their lawn care clients find new tools. “We are eager to continue to provide our industry with access to cutting edge tools to keep them in the driver seat of their business.”

Through the customer growth and the desire to stay ahead of the business, the company is attempting to raise another round.  Werner stated that the goal for the round was to help build out the team and the technology platform.  Success in both of these efforts will allow the company to continue its significant 2019 growth.

Lawn Buddy continues to be one of Wichita’s darling startups, and we are excited to help tell their story.  If you would like more information, please see their website at www.lawnbuddy.com.
