It’s pretty unlikely that you haven’t heard of Angry Birds, but do you know about the company behind the international mobile app success story? Based out of Finland, Rovio has been making games since 2003, and, believe it or not, Angry Birds is the 52nd game they’ve released.
In a December interview with John Berman of ABC News, Rovio’s “Mighty Eagle,” Peter Vesterbacka, discussed the success of Angry Birds and gave hints about what’s next in the game. When asked to explain the former, and give his opinion on why it’s so popular and addictive, Vesterbacka replied:
The characters, the birds, people really love the birds, and that’s actually what got us building the game in the first place, was really the birds. And then the pigs, as well, people like to hate the pigs. It’s really a combination of many things but the characters are very, very important.
The last question asked of Vesterbacka is for advice for people playing the game, “What’s the best way to succeed?” Since I’ve gone cold turkey on the game, that answer didn’t interest me as much the one before it, in which Vesterbacka gives a great reply to the question: “Do you sit down to write a game for a mobile sensation or is it luck?”
