Google today unveiled Zavers by Google, a digital coupon product created by former Kansas City, Kan. startup Zave Networks. The internet giant’s announcement today showcases the same product offered by Zave when Google acquired it in 2011.

Zavers promises to enable retailers and manufacturers the ability to reward loyal customers with coupons relevant to them. “So dog owners don’t get cat food coupons and parents of teenagers don’t get diaper coupons,” Google Commerce’s director of emerging platforms said in a company blog post.

Using Zavers, manufacturers get more customer data from retailers and retailers get access to an “extensive network” of manufacturers, benefits that Google says increase return on investment for the former and revenues for the latter. The product, as it did at the time of Zave Networks’ acquisition, presents manufacturers data real-time.

Retailers can use Zavers in conjunction with or separate of Google Wallet.

The roll-out of Zavers today comes a little more than a month after Google acquired coupon marketing startup Incentive Targeting.

On occasion of that news, Progressive Grocer reported that as a result of Google’s Zave Networks and Inventive Targeting integrations, retailers can expect a “complete package of retailer couponing and promotion technology that allows the retailer to create, source, execute and distribute offers.”

Founded in 2006, Zave Networks was acquired by Google in September 2011 for its “impressive platform to connect consumers with coupons, special offers and reward programs for their favorite businesses,” Google said at the time.

Google has since moved the Zavers team to the Google office in Boulder, Colo., a Google Spokesperson said in a phone interview today.
