Startup Weekend, a 54-hour event that challenges attendees to present ideas, form teams, plan, implement, and then present their just-born startup in one weekend, will be taking place in Des Moines the first weekend of March. Organizers Shane Reiser, COO of the Seattle-based Startup Weekend organization, and Levi Rosol, a developer and Silicon Prairie News contributor, are offering a 33 percent discount on tickets through February 12* – regulary $75, and early bird ticket will cost you $50.

So, why the $75 cost of Startup Weekend? In yesterday’s PrairieCast (look for the video to be posted later today), Rosol listed out the cost of venue, food (meals provided from dinner Friday through dinner Sunday), and other items that are provided throughout the weekend. (Update 2:30 p.m. – Reiser has left a comment clarifying costs, see: Shane Reiser Comment.) Besides a bed to sleep on, Startup Weekend is providing all that is needed for individuals to bring their ideas, passion and energy to attempt to build a startup product over a weekend.

Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

This year’s event will take place at Des Moines Amplified in the Greater Des Moines Partnership building at 700 Locust Street. To register for the event, visit dsm.startupweekend.org/tickets.
