The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a Kansas City-based entrepreneurship and education organization, announced today that its president and CEO Tom McDonnell will step down from his role on June 30 and advise through the end of the year. McDonnell became CEO in January 2013.

According to a release, the Foundation has been prepping for a multi-year strategic plan that would require a longer commitment from McDonnell, which did not fit with his personal plans. As part of the transition out of his role, Wendy Guillies will become acting president and CEO effective July 1—at that time the board “will determine the approach and timing for naming the Foundation’s next CEO,” according to the release.

“When I accepted this position in 2012, I did so knowing that we had to take some significant steps to reinforce our commitment to Kansas City while continuing to deliver impact in the areas of education and entrepreneurship,” McDonnell said. “It has been a privilege to work with our talented team, and I am very pleased with the progress we have made during my tenure. I look forward to continuing to work with the Kauffman Foundation and support the mission of this important Kansas City institution.”
