Sunday night, after a long weekend of pitching, hacking, designing and loitering at What Cheer, GiftBright.com was selected as the winner of the first Startup Weekend Omaha. With the win, they take home the $2,100 cash prize, and hopefully go on to further develop their product.

One of the other highlights of the evening was the response Matt Secoske gave to a question he received during his presentation:
You’ve invested a lot in Startup Weekend, why is it so important to you?
I invest a lot in Startup Weekend and BarCamp Omaha and all of the other things that are going on, specifically in the Omaha community, and in the region. Mainly because I care. I want to see all of us doing what we love to do. For me, that’s building startups and creating new things. And I think a lot of us are in the same boat. What I’d hope, is regardless of what happens with the projects this weekend, it was a fun weekend. If it goes on, awesome. If it doesn’t, no big deal. But, keep that spark alive. Keep that intensity of “I’m gonna do this in 48 hours no matter what. I don’t f-ing care about this or about that. I’m doing it.” If you can do that going forward, what’s to stop you? For me that’s what it’s all about – keeping that spark alive and keeping the momentum going.
Well said indeed.

Congrats to all of the participants, each were exciting to watch in their own way and helped to make the first Startup Weekend Omaha a success!
