On the first of this month, Des Moines attorney and adventurer Charlie Wittmack set off on an 11-month journey that’s taking him from the banks of the River Thames in England to the summit of Mount Everest in Nepal. Appropriately titled The World Tri, Wittmack is traveling 12,000 miles through 13 countries, first swimming, then biking, and finally, climbing.

As of Friday, July 16, Wittmack had traveled 100 miles, marking the one-third point of his swim. The accomplishment was captured on The World Tri’s blog, [Infographic] One Hundred Miles In, by World Tri travel partner and fellow Iowan, Andy Stoll. This wasn’t the first post on the blog, and it surely won’t be the last. Stoll and the rest of the World Tri team is doing a spectacular job of documenting Wittmack’s undertaking.

The video below, Episode 1: The Beginning, is an example of what they’re capturing. I encourage you to check it out to hear more about Wittmack’s background, his interest in triathlons, and the genesis of The World Tri. But I warn you, it’s sure to engross you in the amazing adventure that’s taking place. You’ll soon have theworldtri.com bookmarked on your browser.

If you’d like to hear more from Andy Stoll, listen to Geoff Wood and Andy Brudtkuhl‘s recent podcast: PrairieCast: Andy Stoll discusses social entrepreneurship & World Tri.
