MindMixer – Lead Application Developer (Omaha) – Startup Job!

MindMixer is a web-based platform for meaningful civic engagement.

MindMixer.com is an Omaha, Nebraska-based start-up that has created a web based platform for meaningful civic engagement. Our clients include municipalities, elected officials, school districts, and professional organizations. We basically provide a simple to use forum for people to share their ideas, concerns and knowledge about real time projects in their community. For example, what if your community was considering a light rail system? Or what about rebuilding a park in a part of town that has decayed? Wouldn’t it be great to participate in this dialogue somehow? In most communities, a town-hall meeting is posted and typically a few people show up. Mainly to grab a donut and some stale coffee. Our business is radically changing that tired tradition and remaking it to allow people to contribute whenever and wherever they are on their own time frame. PC, Mac, phone, library computer…it will all be easily accessed. End result? More input, more dialogue, better communication and improved community involvement and decisions.

REBEL INTERACTIVE is an Omaha-based Interactive Agency specializing in branding, websites, and videos.

Interested? Send a short video of yourself explaining why you’d make a good REBEL to rebel@rebel-interactive.com.

Red Nova Labs – Strategic Web Relations (Kansas City) – Startup Job

Red Nova Labs is a web development and marketing agency as well as a technology think-tank.

This position is critical to Red Nova Labs’ growth. That’s why we’ve spent months trying to define it — but we probably never will. The web (and the way people use it) is always changing, always evolving. As a web think-tank, we must evolve with it to succeed. So we’re focusing on finding the right candidate – a confident, capable, can-do creature – who will be happy and driven in a strategic role without a concrete definition, just concrete goals.

For now, you might think of it as a new hybrid of four roles: (1) product marketing, (2) public relations, (3) business development, and (4) sales. Imagine these responsibilities as pie chart cut evenly into quarters.

For a long time we called it SEO linkbuilding, but that implies pushing hyperlinks onto bloggers and editors all day. It’s much broader than that. A single week might include elements of online research, networking, socializing, article writing, guest blogging, media relations, innovating microproducts, interfacing with design/dev to build web tools, selling widgets, seeking allies, facilitating partnerships, monitoring analytics, phew!—all toward the ultimate goal of building top PageRank. Your mission is to drive the most relevant web traffic at the lowest cost.

Web-based marketing has become a bloody battle, waged over Google’s first page. The companies that make it out alive will do so by coming up with new and unique ways to entice search engine crawlers, and to create real added value for human users. This is what we need from you. For the right person, we humbly believe this is a dream opportunity to have a real impact in a small, nimble company with a ton of talent and momentum.

Position: Strategic Web Relations

Product: Web Marketing Systems

Pay: $2,000 to $5,000 / month (plus bennies and incentives) depending on experience/qualifications

Perks: All-you-can-ingest coffee, tea, juice, soda, fruit, nuts, an open atmosphere, and random happy hours

You Should Have:

College degree

  • Actually, this is more of a preference than a requirement. Don’t have one? Then be able to show that you can finish what you start. As for experience, it can be trumped by common sense and mad sales/communication skills.

Strategic mind

  • Here, “strategy” isn’t just a bullcrap bingo word tossed around the conference room. You must be ready to create industry-shaping ideas that continue to build our websites’ reputation and influence online. Be eager to find new, clever ways to use web technology and communications to create successful, traffic building linking strategies.

Head for numbers

  • You must be analytical and numbers driven. Be competent at tracking ROI, defining conversion metrics, analyzing campaign data, conducting A/B testing, and implementing end-to-end data tracking systems.

SEO awareness

  • Newbs need not apply. Know the fundamentals of search marketing, email marketing, social media, and web analytics. Being an expert in any of these areas is not critical, but if you don’t have at least a rudimentary idea of how websites succeed on the fanatical Google-driven Internet, you’ll set us back three months with training. There’s no time to get your feet wet—we need you to jump in head-first. Spend some quality time perusing SEOmoz and Search Engine Land. Know the meanings (and implications) of terms like white hat, black hat, link juice and PageRank. Read this: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/a-brief-letter-to-startup-ceos-cpos-founders

Sociability

  • If you take yourself too seriously you won’t be happy here. Nobody is spared from opinions, jokes and coaching. But if you can to laugh and you want to win big, you’ll fit with our team. Even better, you’ll be able to connect effectively with publishers, bloggers, webmasters, developers, executives, et al. Be an excellent communicator (oral and written) who can form personable, candid relationships with press, industry influencers and business partners.

Competency

  • You must be capable of both creative brainstorming and comprehensive execution. Be comfortable working with senior management to set the strategic direction. Assist in defining project scope, schedule, and budget estimates.

Entrepreneurial bent

  • You must thrive in a flexible, evolving environment where the challenges and opportunities change daily. Listen; if you want to get ahead, this is the place for you. We’re small and dynamic with a lot of potential. How about you?

How to Apply:

  • Send resume to croyce@rednovalabs.com
  • Include a note describing your passions, what drives you, how you approach your work
  • No phone calls or drop-ins
