Give Hollrback this: the Omaha-based startup seems to have a flair for the dramatic. For the second time in two rounds of TechStarsStartup Madness tournament, Hollrback advanced with a win by an oh-so-slim margin.

With the narrow victory, Hollrback moved on to the quarterfinals of Startup Madness, an NCAA tournament-style contest that started with 64 startups competing for a grand prize worth more than $25,000. The eight surviving startups have advanced through the single-elimination tournament, which is sponsored by TechStars and hosted at thisorthat.com, by receiving more votes than their opponents.

In Hollrback’s case, it hasn’t always been many more votes. In its third-round matchup, Hollrback split 494 votes roughly 50-50 with Big Give Media (Seattle), but Hollrback had a handful more votes. That close call came on the heels of a second-round contest in which Hollrback garnered 51 percent of the vote against OnCompare (San Francisco and Seattle).

Now, Hollrback is facing Workables (Los Angeles), a marketplace for one-time jobs. Voting for the fourth round runs until Thursday at approximately 5 p.m. With a win, Hollrback can secure the semifinalist prize of a trip to TechStars and consideration to become a finalist for TechStars, a startup incubator with programs in Boston, Boulder, New York City and Seattle.
