The gaming industry is a tough cookie to bite into, especially with big game producers like EA and Nintendo. But Vicinity Games is not backing away from creating multiplayer video games for XBox and other game consoles. Last October, Nate Allen and Mike Koporc started Vicinity for the purpose of not only developing games but also serving as a “beacon” for video game development in Kansas City.

One of few gaming studios on the Silicon Prairie, Vicinity makes local, multiplayer games that cultivate a social experience, like in Mario Kart 64, Gauntlet Legends or Castle Crashers. That active engagement between gamers is key to Vicinity’s mission. Plus, as mentioned on Vicinity’s site, it “encourages good hygiene.”

Vicinity submitted its first game, called Papercraft, for peer review this week and expects the game’s release on XBox soon. Papercraft is described as a “thinking man’s four-player co-op twin-stick action shooter” and takes its name from being completely imaged by paper.

Below is a sneak preview of Papercraft, which has been described as a mix of Rambo supplied with “James Bond’s tech into Maverick’s fighter jet that was made out of paper.”

Check out Silicon Prairie News in the coming weeks as we highlight the co-founders and the making of Paper Craft.
