The inaugural BarCamp ICR was held Saturday at the Iowa City Public Library. We couldn’t have had a better event! We met over 100 attendees and our day was extended hours longer due to many more people wanting to talk than we could have imagined. Just three minutes after opening up the grid for talks, we had the entire schedule filled for the day. Our deepest thanks goes out to our attendees, speakers, sponsors, organizers and volunteers for making this a wonderful event.

With talks covering a summer in a Denmark hippie commune, a journey of failure, community brands, how to improve education, how to throw great theme parties and what to expect from technology in the next 10 years, there was certainly something for everybody. Our passionate speakers consisted of a robotics team of high schoolers, a former Harvard professor and creatives, techies and entrepreneurs from all walks of life.

In addition to the magnificent talks, we had some other great things happen on Saturday. We ran a near-zero waste event while providing breakfast and lunch and a fun photo booth to add to the memories.
