PrairieCast Pull Quote: “I have probably 60 (Hudl T-shirts)”

Last week, our guest on PrairieCast, David Graff of Hudl, spoke about a project the company undertook last year, awarding a pack of special Hudl T-shirts to each of Hudl’s high school clients that won a state title. The shirts, which read “Dominate” on the front and “State champs 2010” on the back, were printed in the schools’ colors and were distributed to more than 50 teams nationwide.

If there was any thought of this being a one-time marketing project, it seems that can’t be the case. “We’ll get emails from coaches and see tweets from athletes or coaches saying how much they want to earn their ‘Dominate’ shirt this year,” Graff said.

Hudl is know for creating T-shirts themed in the colors of their clients, and it’s not often you see a Hudl employee out and about and not sporting such a shirt (see photo left, from the Malone and Co. at Big Omaha).

Graff admitted on the show that he has a sizable personal collection of the shirts. “I have probably 60 of them in my closet at home,” he said.

“It makes it really easy in the morning when you get up,” he continued. “If your biggest question is which color of Hudl shirt you’re going to wear [the day is] not as challenging.”

There’s a joke that T-shirts are currency is the startup community, and if that’s the case Graff is Warren Buffet. Second place is probably Ben Milne, who told me in a recent email that he has the equivalent of “two full loads of laundry” in Dwolla T-shirts.
