Wrap up Thinc Iowa 2012 at 8 tonight with the closing party presented by Iowa’s Creative Corridor.

Open to both badge holders and the general public, the party is at West End Architectural Salvage. This 50,000-square-foot warehouse not only provides a place for guests to connect, but also brings light to a local entrepreneur, Don Short, who rehabbed the building 6 years ago. After rehabbing houses as a hobby for years, Short opened the business to bring furniture pieces made from reclaimed materials to Central Iowa.

BECOME A SPONSOR

“What we’re doing is tapping into what people want to do now,” Short said. “People want to be more sensitive to things that aren’t disposable and reuse pieces that still have some use.”

Their work hasn’t only caught the attention of residents in the Des Moines area, but also a wide range of television shows. Short and his team are currently the subjects of a Pie Town Productions TV show, taping four episodes every three weeks.

Pieces you may see at the closing party include coffee tables made from salvaged tin ceiling tiles, a bar counter made out of a pool table top, and even tables made from trees torn down by the tornado in Creston.

Short and his 15 full- time employees make each piece in the shop, which is open 7 days a week and 15 nights a month for parties.
