A Des Moines area eighth grader is the Iowa winner of the 2013 Doodle 4 Google competition. The design (top left) made by Marissa Frost, a student at Urbandale Middle School, will be displayed in the American Museum of Natural History, according to the Des Moines Register. Her doodle will compete for a chance to be featured on the search engine’s homepage for the day.

Students from kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to submit drawings for the competition, and the national winner is determined by an online voting system. The chosen drawing will be featured on Google’s homepage May 23.

Winners have been chosen from across the Silicon Prairie with entries submitted from Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. To view finalists and winning entries from each of the 50 states, visit Doodle 4 Google.
