State officials this morning revealed Microsoft as the company behind a nearly $700 million data center investment, also referred to as “Project Mountain,” proposed for West Des Moines. The software giant already has a West Des Moines data center, which opened in early 2012, but according to a committee of the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board, the company will invest an additional $677.6 million and create 29 new jobs in central Iowa. The committee also recommended that the board consider nearly $20 million in tax credits for the project. Today’s news follows in the wake of announcements by two other tech giants—Facebook and Google—that they would be building and expanding Iowa data centers, respectively. — Source: Des Moines Register
