The Omaha-based accelerator Straight Shot opened applications for its second class Monday. This time, organizers hope to focus on more meaningful mentorship and earlier access to investors ahead of demo day. Startups will be matched with three to five mentors, each who have experience and understanding of what it takes to successfully scale a business and have some commonly needed areas of expertise, like web development, marketing or finance.
The accelerator, set to begin in June, will grow from seven startups last year to ten this year. Last year, five of seven companies earned additional funding within a year of the accelerator, much better than the average accelerator in which 27 percent of startups get additional seed within a year of a program, according to TechCrunch. Straight Shot also has new leadership, with David Arnold taking the helm as managing director.
