A Lincoln pediatrician’s office has been gamified to encourage employees.
Gear Five Studio, a Lincoln-based software company that wants to optimize health care by creating positive and fun work environments, turned its app, AMPT, over to Complete Children’s Health this month.

AMPT is a performance management tool for hospitals, but it’s also a predictive analytics engine that delivers near real-time insights for leaders to understand precisely what is holding back hospitals from high levels of safety, quality and patient outcomes.
They hope to acheive better outcomes by increasing employee happiness through gamifying daily work, said Collin Caneva, co-founder of Gear Five.
“Complete Children’s Health strives for excellence through innovation, so AMPT is a natural fit,” Caneva said.
Nurses can plug information from rounds and other daily tasks and earn badges when they meet goals. It spurs friendly competition and encourages better work, according to a video on AMPT.
Additionally, AMPT is a peer-to-peer recognition app that reinforces teamwork, collaboration and cultural values in order to increase engagement and morale amid ever-increasing industry mandates and tightening compliances, Caneva said.
“It’s a win-win for administrators and employees,” said Caneva.
Caneva points to a Gallup poll that found 87 percent of employees were unengaged from their work, which creates low productivity on the personal and company-wide level, he said.
“It goes in circles: When people are more engaged, their companies do better, and those companies have room to add more people,” the study states. “But when the ratio between engaged employees and actively disengaged employees improves, the whole company improves.”
In October, Gear Five Studio was invited to be one of 200 exhibitors at the Forbes Healthcare Summit in New York City and attended the OneMedForum in San Francisco last week.
