This is a first in a series of interviews with the artist behind the “UNWASHED” event opening this Saturday at the Bancroft Market!
Joel “M!GHTY” Damon has the idea for curating an outstanding group of Omaha’s young, underground artists and put them together under one show. Outside of his work at the Bemis gallery, Joel has hands in a number of Omaha’s creative endeavours.
“UNWASHED” will be a visual overload created by six of Omaha’s most talented and progressive underground artists. New works by Damon a.k.a M!GHTY, Jeff King, Josh Powell, Miss Cake along with special guests Andrew Hershey and Amy Morin will be on display.
The goal of the show is to start a fresh dialog in Omaha about the value and overall presence of underground art. In a city where the “up and coming art scene” relies on a small handful of artists and, for the most part, two galleries, “UNWASHED” will present a new plan for the community. This is the first of what will be an ongoing series of events where the unknowns become recognized and the amazing talents that limp along will be given a chance to prove their worth.
The opening reception takes place this Saturday from 7-10pm for art and drinks! The gallery’s hours are Saturday from 4-8 and Sunday from 1-5.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for interviews with the other artists involved…
