Startup Weekend Omaha will be returning this year on September 23-25. The weekend event gives participants a taste of the startup world by offering a friendly competition to validate a business idea (and pitch it) in less than 54 hours.

This year’s sponsors include Chapman and Company, Dundee Venture Capital, Omaha Startup Collaborative and UNO. The event will be hosted by the UNO Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Franchising at Mammel Hall.

The last Startup Weekend Nebraska in Omaha was organized by Shane Reiser in February 2015 at Omaha Code School. First place went to “Baby Steps,” an automated baby book service.

This year the organizers hope to have 100 participants, 25 new company ideas and 200 attendees at the final pitch showcase at the end of the weekend.

The event is open to the public.

“All folks interested in building something are encouraged to attend,” said Jordan Rothenberg, Regional Manager for Startup Programs at Techstars. “Business people, marketers, designers, and developers tend to be the main groups in attendance. Musicians, artists, writers, hackers, personal trainers, lawyers, insurance agents, salesmen, and everything in between have also participated.”
