Starting this week, the Iowa tech community has two more opportunities to meet over a glass of beer of cup of coffee. Technology Association of Iowa‘s regular informal gathering TechBrew kicks off today in Spencer, the fifth location of the three-year-old event. The following morning, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation‘s weekly startup event 1 Million Cups expands to Cedar Rapids.

The addition of a regular tech meetup in Spencer, a northwest Iowa town of less than 12,000 people, follows in the wake StartupCity Spencer‘s launch last year by Technology Association of Iowa president Leann Jacobsen.

Today’s event is from 5-7 p.m. at The Bear. Visit technologyiowa.com for more details.

Cedar Rapids’ local version of 1 Million Cups, an event started in Kansas City less than a year ago, will be hosted at Vault and run by the coworking space’s operations director Kris Fassler. Like the weekly event in Des Moines, which began four months ago, the gathering begins at 9 a.m.

“The hope is to try to organize between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City,” said Kauffman Foundation’s Nate Olson, who conceived of the program. “We’re just trying to mix the communities because they are smaller in size, but we can still build a strong community there.”

The addition of Cedar Rapids brings 1 Million Cups’ city count to six. The program is also now held in St. Louis and Houston, and will be launching in Reno, Nev. on Wednesday, as well.

Over the next few months, Olson said the foundation hopes to launch in more cities, with at least one more event starting in the Silicon Prairie. By year’s end, his aim is to have a 1 Million Cups presence in 20 cities across the country.
