My pick for the week: KANEKO‘s Relationships 2.0?. For the last of three presentations in their Conversations with Scientists series, the folks at KANEKO are bringing together a psychoanalyst, professional blog, local “Twitter aficionado,” and “Facebook maven” for a discussion on how social media is reshaping our minds.

This month we will be hearing from Dr. Mike McGinnis, executive director of the Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI). Prior to assuming his position at PKI in June 2009, Dr. McGinnis served as the executive director of the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center at Old Dominion University for three years, following a seven year tenure as professor and head of the Department of Systems Engineering Department at West Point, New York. Dr. Mike McGinnis will be speaking on the mission of PKI and some of their programs.

KANEKO is located at 1111 Jones Street
Among his many pursuits as a Lacanian psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, Dr. Jean-Pierre Klotz examines the relationships between subjectivity and technology – intersections that he finds particularly interesting in the culture of the United States. Klotz teaches across the globe, and speaks frequently to professional organizations in Europe, South America, Canada, India, and the U.S. His publications, which he composes in many languages, number in the hundreds, and he frequently communicates through Twitter. In his KANEKO presentation, Klotz will discuss how new social media affects the psyche, changing the social bonds we form and shifting possibilities for creativity. Klotz will be joined by three enthusiastic users of social media:
