Returning home to the midwest after spending a few years in the cultural bubble of San Francisco is a strange experience. As John Travolta’s character says in Pulp Fiction regarding Europe: “It’s the little differences. I mean, they got the same shit over there that we got here, but it’s just… there it’s just a little different.” You’re confronted with of all the superficial differences in dress, decor and culture, and you start to remember that in Iowa it isn’t about wearing expensive clothes, or having a hip club to check out every night. It’s about sincerity, genuine friendliness, working hard, and desire to help other people. “And that,” I imagine the people presenting at Thinc Iowa would probably say, “is exactly the point.”

For starters, ThincIowa was great this week. Thanks to Geoff Wood and the team at Silicon Prairie for all of their hard work to make the event happen. One of the speakers there was Scott Case, the CEO of StartupAmerica. He and I had an opportunity to speak Thursday night about the StartupTennessee and StartupConnecticut efforts underway, and it sounded much like the amazing things going on in Iowa. I mentioned this to him, and said we should add Iowa to his list of regions supporting the StartupAmerica goals (which we already are).

Yesteday and the night before, I attended the ThincIowa conference, arranged by the Silicon Prairie News team. It was the first true professional conference that I’ve ever attended, and it was a great first conference! All day on Friday, my Twitter account was ablaze with tweets and retweets containing quotes and commentary of the various speakers that were invited to participate.
Thank you!
Though we have only shared a sampling of the Thinc Iowa coverage, we are grateful to all who have given special attention to the event through their articles, video, photos, blogs and tweets. Thank you for continuing the momentum and conversation of the conference.
